A Definition of Active Obedience: Christ's active obedience may be defined as the full heartfelt obedience to the law of God performed throughout His life. It is His joyful fulfillment of every demand to love God fully and to love His neighbor as Himself. In every circumstance, at every time and place, without any diminution of any kind, Jesus Christ obeyed the law of God. It is this obedience that is imputed to the believer to satisfy our deficiency before the demands of God's law. We stand clothed in the righteousness earned by Jesus Christ through a lifetime of true obedience to God's law

Definition of Passive Obedience: “The phrase is often misunderstood and is read as if there were an analogy to the active/passive moods in grammar. But that really misses the point. Passive should be understood in relation to the Latin "passion'- it is obedience in suffering, humiliation, death. Christ came, and on behalf of His people, endured a lifetime of suffering, culminating in His death on the cross.” - James Renihan
